Privacy policy

Chirp is an offline-first app for learning UK bird calls. This policy explains how EZ Labs ("we", "us" or "Chirp") handles personal data when you use the app. For privacy questions or requests, email privacy@ezlabs.co.uk.
The information Chirp stores on your device
Your learning progress, settings and reminder preferences are stored locally on your device. The app also stores the age band you choose: under 13, 13–15, or 16+. We do not ask for, store or infer your date of birth. The age band is used only to apply appropriate advertising, tracking and measurement safeguards; it is not sent to our analytics, crash-reporting, purchase, support or research systems.
Crash reports
We use Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google, to diagnose and fix app failures. Crash reports can include technical information such as device type, operating-system version, app version and error stack traces. We rely on our legitimate interests in maintaining a reliable and secure app for this processing. Crashlytics reports are retained for up to 90 days.
Advertising and privacy choices
Chirp may use Google Mobile Ads on supported mobile platforms. Before an adult user's advertising or tracking choices are applied where required, we use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to present the applicable consent options. You can review available choices later in Chirp's Settings → Privacy screen.
For users who choose an under-13 or 13–15 age band, Chirp applies Google’s child or under-age-of-consent protections. Analytics and Apple’s tracking-permission request are disabled for those paths, and ads are configured as non-personalised.
Analytics
Chirp does not currently send product-usage analytics. If we introduce consented analytics in a future release, we will update this policy and make it controllable through the in-app privacy settings. We do not use your age band, consent choice or date of birth as an analytics attribute.
Who processes data
Google provides Firebase Crashlytics and, where ads are enabled, Google Mobile Ads and UMP. Google may process the technical and advertising data described above as a service provider under its applicable terms and privacy documentation. Chirp does not sell your personal data.
Your choices and rights
You can change your age band and review applicable advertising privacy options in Settings → Privacy. You can remove locally stored Chirp data by using the app’s available reset options or uninstalling the app. To make a privacy request or raise a concern, contact us at privacy@ezlabs.co.uk. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority, including the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
